Analysis: Rollins regresses badly in second season

Quinten Rollins is a good counterpart to Damarious Randall. While Randall is brash and outspoken, branding himself as a playmaker, Rollins has always been quiet and methodical, content to find his role and fill it.

It’s fitting, then, that Rollins regressed in a way fitting of his personality, as did Randall. While Randall was all over the place, gambling and missing plays, Rollins seemed to withdraw more and more as the season went on, eventually finding himself on the field only because the other options were even worse choices.

Of the Packers three second year corners, Rollins fell the furthest and farthest. He produced the best coverage rating of the Randall/Rollins/Ladarius Gunter trio last year, but gave up the worst one this year, according to Pro Football Focus.

Fortunately, Rollins is young and still relatively inexperienced, having picked up football again only recently. His physical attributes are still a good fit for the cornerback position, and hopefully with another offseason under Joe Whitt Jr., 2017 will produce much happier returns for Rollins.
