How Will LB Vince Biegel Help the Packers?
According to our day two Twitter poll, pass rusher was by far the position Packesr fans most wanted the team to address. They finally did that with the first pick of the fourth round, selecting Vince Biegel with the 108th overall selection. Here’s what he brings to the team.
Pass Rush Depth
We’ve well documented the Packers’ need for a pass rusher, and Biegel has proven ability to get to the quarterback. Scouts have pointed out that many of Biegel’s sacks and pressures came on unblocked plays, but he does consistently show an ability to defeat blockers too. He should provide quality depth to the Packers’ pass rushing corps almost immediately.
Special Teams Ability
Even if Biegel doesn’t show up on defense right away, he should be a special teams maven from day one. He has good size and speed to contribute on punt and kick coverage, and he should follow in the footsteps of fellow linebacker Jayrone Elliott in contributing in that department.
Youthful Contributions
The Packers don’t have many young pass rusher on the roster. Both Kyler Fackrell and Jayrone Elliott will turn 26 in November, but Biegel will be just 24 at the start of the next season. If he can tap into his full potential, he should be a good contributor for years to come.
